Patience: Secure in education, my vision for the future became clear

I’m studying Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry so I can become a doctor and work at a local hospital. My parents struggled to send me to school, but they tried their best and supported me through my primary education. Since CAMFED came into my life, things have really changed for the better!

Tunainuana (Together We Rise)

OFFICIAL SELECTION MOUNTAINFILM 2024: This is the story of a girl from rural Tanzania and the rise of a sisterhood of change leaders across Africa. It’s a message of hope and solidarity, that centers lived experience and community, and explores the power of female education to transform our world.

Lydia Wilbard (the subject of this film) founded the CAMFED Association – the network of women leaders educated with CAMFED support – in Tanzania. This sisterhood is a force for good across the African continent.

CAMFED (the Campaign for Female Education) supports some of the most excluded girls in rural Africa to go to school, succeed, lead, and grow up to turn the tide of poverty for their families and communities. Our programs are spearheaded by the young women leaders in the CAMFED Association (CAMA), who partner with their communities to help secure every child's right to quality education.

Video – Esnart, Malawi

Esnart, a CAMFED supported student in Malawi, scored 6 points (the highest grade) in her school leaving exams. She was one of only three students nationally and the only girl to be awarded such a high grade. At her graduation ceremony in front of the whole school, she was congratulated on her achievement, and was also welcomed officially into the CAMFED Association.
